The Art Studio

24" x 24"

I embrace challenge. I grew up in a family where problems had answers, and creative thinking drove solutions. So when I began taking painting classes as an adult, I expected the challenge, yet felt unsure of the process. Where do I start? What do I paint? How do I mix the colors? Am I doing it right? The answers sounded vague.

I work hard, and welcome the challenge the painting process provides. I am learning to look carefully, to understand the light, to push and pull the values, to watch the edges, to create space, to understand perspective and to make my marks matter. With each new painting, I learn and move forward.

My palette is messier now and I experiment more. By choosing varied subjects, I face different design, drawing, and lighting challenges. I find joy in the process as I watch my paintings evolve, hoping the viewer feels a part of the artistic spaces I create. I step back more often, and accept my work.

Most importantly, I feel passionate about painting. I have gained confidence in my abilities and recognize that my biggest challenge may simply be in letting go.
